The call for special session proposals has closed. Details of accepted special sessions will be posted here once available.
SST2022 welcomes proposals for special sessions, as thematic groupings of oral presentations. Special sessions should aim to explore key topics, challenges or debates of relevance to the speech science community. Interdisciplinary special sessions are particularly encouraged.
Upon acceptance of your special session, an open call for submissions to the session will be included in the conference call for papers. Special sessions will be held during the main conference programme. On submission, authors of 4-page papers will be able to indicate whether they want their presentation to be considered for a particular special session. Following the review process, organisers of special sessions will be asked to consider all papers which were accepted for oral presentation and which indicated interest in their session, and choose up to 4 for inclusion in the session. It is expected that special session organisers will also plan to incorporate time for discussion on the session topic at the beginning and/or end of the session. Further details on special session timing will be circulated after the initial SST2022 review process is complete. Any papers accepted for SST2022 but not accepted to the indicated special session will be included in the main conference programme.
Proposal format and submission
Special session proposals should not exceed 1 page, and should contain the following information:
1) Title and abstract of the special session, for inclusion on the SST2022 website (200 words maximum).
2) Special session description:
– importance of the topic, and relevance to SST2022;
– overall goal of the session (e.g. to foster debate, offer new perspectives, draw together discussions across speech science disciplines, introduce methodological innovations);
– target participants (as presenters in the session – in terms of disciplines, methods, specific interests and expertise);
3) Name, email address, affiliation and brief biography (80 words) of the special session organiser(s), indicating any previous relevant experience.
Deadline for special session proposals: 8 April 2022
Proposals should be submitted to sst2022conf@gmail.com.
Responsibilities
Organisers of accepted special sessions are responsible for selecting which papers will be included in their session, and for planning productive discussions across the papers and related to the session topic. The SST2022 Organising Committee will provide publicity for the special sessions as part of the conference publicity activities, and on-site logistical support to the session organisers and attendees as part of the main conference programme. It is expected that special session organisers will also promote their session among their networks.
Evaluation Criteria
All proposals will be reviewed by the SST2022 Organising Committee, according to:
– ability of the session to contribute to strengthening the foundations of SST-related research;
– clarity of the goals/significance of the topic;
– potential of the session to generate engagement and discussion among SST2022 attendees;
– background/experience of session organiser(s) in relation to the session topic.
